Some people feel that I shouldn’t need a sign because I should already know.

What does Jesus say?
Luke 11:28-29 (KJ2000) ” 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. 29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet.”

Road way to Jesus

Picture remark: Following Jesus does not eliminate storms. It eliminates death.

Rom 6:12-23 (KJ2000) ” 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 Neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the weakness of your flesh: for as you have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20 For when you were the servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had you then in those things of which you are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Isa 7:10-15 (KJ2000) ” 10 Moreover the LORD spoke again unto Ahaz, saying, 11 Ask a sign of the LORD your God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. 12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I test the LORD. 13 And he said, Hear you now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 Curds and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.”

Notice Ahaz does not want to ask for a sign.

Also Gideon asked for signs of dew on fleece and no dew on fleece.
First Gideon asked for a sign to know if it was God who was talking to Him and Jesus Himself came and met him,

Judg 6:24 (KJ2000) ” 24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. ”

Matt 16:1-4 (KJ2000) ” 1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and testing him desired that he would show them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, you say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and overcast. O you hypocrites, you can discern the appearance of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times? 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them, and departed.”

This passage is even more clear that it is not the seeking of a sign that is disturbing to Jesus but the fact that people aren’t understanding or seeing the signs that are so apparent.

John 8:47 (KJ2000) ” 47 He that is of God hears God’s words: you therefore hear them not, because you are not of God. ”

Wow, ‘Praise You, Jesus. You are powerful and respect worthy. Draw me close to You. Free me from all sin. Bring me into Your presence and keep me in Your kingdom and in Your timing.’

So the answer is …
It’s fine to ask for a sign but better to hear directly from Jesus.
