It is a bad thing that the bible can be used for bad purposes:

Luke 4:10 (KJ2000) ” 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you: ”

This is documentation of the time that Jesus was tempted by the devil after He spent 40 days in the desert. The devil uses Psalm 91 in a twisted way.

I am concerned with how I can know how to interpret the bible.
I must look it up for myself. I must look for twists in the words. Find what’s left out. Search the context. And try looking at what the original words mean.
Ps 91:11-12 (KJ2000) ” 11 For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. 12 They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.”

Never mind the modern misinterpretation that human beings have charge over angels.

The misinterpretation is instead of God protecting Jesus, the devil wants Him to throw himself onto the rocks to prove that God will protect Him.

This is obviously twisted when considered this way.
Jesus sees what the devil is up to.
Luke 4:12 (KJ2000) ” 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, You shall not test the Lord your God. ”
Deut 6:16 (KJ2000) ” 16 You shall not test the LORD your God, as you tested him in Massah. ”
So I could say, ‘yes God will protect me always and forever. But not always if I do stupid things.’

It seems that a lot of misinterpretation comes from questioning God’s goodness.

In this case questioning God’s protection.

Look at the beginning of psalm 91 about trusting God.
Ps 91:1-2 (KJ2000) ” 1 He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

Ps 91:4 (KJ2000) ” 4 He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust: his truth shall be your shield and buckler. ”

Ps 91:9-10 (KJ2000) ” 9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the most High, your habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.”
Ps 91:14-15 (KJ2000) ” 14 Because he has set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he has known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.”

I like how this psalm goes on to talk about living with God.    It gives me hope to know I can dwell in the secret place of the most High.  I want to set my love on Him and know His name.

Prayer:
‘Father, help me call on You/Jesus when I am in trouble.’
